William Hayes is a composer, guitarist, and electronic musician based in Seattle, WA. He is guitarist/collaborator with experimental electronic band Newaxeyes and performs baritone guitar, synthesizer/samplers in his solo project Media Giant. William creates original music and sound design for film, dance, theater and performance art, and performs guitar and electronics with various bands and artists.
William recently recorded guitars on Danish folk/black metal artist Myrkur's upcoming album 'Mareridt' (September 2017, Relapse Records) and toured the US and Canada as live synth/keyboardist of Wolves in the Throne Room in Fall of 2016. Newaxeyes' debut LP 'Black Fax' was produced by Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Marissa Nadler, Earth, Boris) and is set for release in Fall of 2017.
His compositional work employs sonic extremes, improvisation, extended instrument techniques, and combines acoustic, electronic, and amplified instrumentation. Influenced by modern composition, electronic sampling, pre-Baroque harmony, extreme metal, and American song traditions, he bends fragments into expressive pieces that are visceral and emotive. William received a BM in classical composition in 2013 from Cornish College of the Arts, where he studied under Wayne Horvitz and Jarrad Powell.
Past Seattle shows as a performer include 'Industrial Ballet' by Kate Wallich & The YC and composer/producer Johnny Goss at The Moore Theater, 'How to Become a Partisan' by director/choreographer Alice Gosti & composer Hanna Benn at St. Mark's Cathedral, and Newaxeyes' original live score to Ridley Scott's 1979 classic Alien, commissioned by the Northwest Film Forum.
